"Shack at the Back"
Mark and Rachel Turner
The blurb for this seminar read:
One of the greatest ways to enable children to have a vibrant relationship with God is to help them engage in an active constant communication with him through prayer. We explored a new way of doing this through a prayer "Shack at the Back" during last summer's New Wine conferences. Come and be inspired as we share what god did in hundreds of children's lives, and be encouraged to take what we learned and use it to shape something new and unique to your church in your community as we all try to free children to experience the life changing god for them selves. We will be looking at the ideas of "chat and catch", the practicalities of prayer ministry for children, and talking through how the shack worked and the possible adaptions for a local church.
It did, as they say, what it says on the tin. I always knew that children can pray as well as, if not better than adults; but I have had difficulties in finding ways to help them with this and also helping the other leaders with leading the children. The explanation of how they do children's prayer ministry was very helpful and gave lots of practical advice on how both to do prayer ministry and also a framework for training leaders.
Rachel is a children's worker at a church at
St Pauls, St Alban's and with her husband, Mark, have led the "Shack at the Back" children's prayer ministry at the New Wine summer conferences.
