Planning a holiday club - 2 - Have Fun

Have Fun

Another thing about planning a holiday club is that I think it should be fun. For both the leaders as well as the children. Of course it will be hard work as well and there will be times when it seems you have insurmountable obstacles, but on the whole doing children's work should be enjoyable.
We had a second meeting to plan our October holiday club last Friday. It was a great time to go over the initial ideas we had at the first one and flesh them out a bit more. We have now decided on a theme for both the event as well as the teaching. The theme for the event is going to be a kind of Australian jungle theme, with references to "I'm a celebrity - get me out of here..." and "Survivor" and the teaching is going to be on bible survivors- the real challenge there is narrowing it down to the few we need. The meeting again involved food - which really helped the team bonding and helped with getting the ideas flowing. So many ideas, in fact, it's luck we have a very skilled leader who was able to channel all that energy into well defined goals for the next meeting in a couple of weeks...

Planning a holiday club - 1 - Starting Early

Starting Early

Personally I think it is a good idea to start planning as early as possible. In fact we were already having ideas about this year's club as the last one was running. Even if you are not going to do anything much until a lot nearer the time of the club it is a good idea to at least have started the planning so that ideas can waft around your mind and when you see stuff relating to the theme you might choose you get get them over the year and not in a frantic last minute rush.
We started planning a month or so ago with a meal for people who are likely to be involved this year and were involved last year. It was a chance to review what we had done and look ahead to what we would like to do next year. And also an opportunity to get together as a team and get to know each other.

Planning a holiday club

The hardest thing I think in running a holiday club is the planning. There are lots of things to think about. I am going to record my thoughts as I am involved in planning this years autumn half term holiday club.

I played a wacky professor in last year's club we ran and after being involved in writing the scripts and designing the stage set have become involved in the planning of this years one.

Churches that have put on holiday clubs

This is a list of churches that I have found on the internet that are or have advertised details of a holiday club on the internet. I like to see what other people are up to as they always seem to have the best ideas. There is also a map of all these churches - find one near you! If you have details of your holiday club on a website and would like it to be linked to for here please leave a comment.
